In the summer of 2009 Amber mailed Derek a box of cookies when they first met, but the REAL story was he wasn't the only one she sent cookies too… Derek figured out Amber’s game pretty quick.
Was Amber proud of this moment… no, however it worked out in her favor as Derek and Amber are happily married and from that day forward they were inseparable.
As their relationship grew, Derek and Amber bonded over baking, specifically cookies from that time on. Over the years our cookies have taken on many forms. Cookies in all different shapes, sizes, flavors, sometimes adding booze, or just eating the raw dough. They even gave out chocolate chip cookies as favors at their wedding. It wasn’t until Derek began working in insurance that Amber thought what a better gift for a potential client than classic chocolate chip cookies. As potential clients, these cookies had to be better than good, they had to be the best cookie ever!
Well, just as we were about to kick off cookie gifts, COVID hit and so she turned to posting some of the cookie pictures and next thing we knew people were saying they would order.
On a whim, Amber posted the cookies on Facebook one evening and said she would take five orders. She thought her mom would humor her and she would take down the post in an hour. Two hours and fourteen orders later she had to cut off commenting on the post.
Now, we are just over a year in business and almost 600 dozen sold.
Today, our story is back to where it began as Derek has joined Amber in mailing boxes of cookies to people nationwide.
Growing up Derek loved the classics. Well really only two classics, Chocolate Chip Cookies and Oreos. This combination actually made our Sassy Pants cookie that is in memory of our first cat together, Sassy the Tuxedo cat. Derek has had years of testing from purchasing cookies to enjoying cookies his mother made and dedicates his spare time to tasting our cookies to ensure you have quality products. He even takes it as far to tasting the dough without being asked. This is why Amber writes “do not eat” on our dough. He’s just passionate about Chippy’s Chips.
Cookies are Amber’s life. From childhood to adulthood cookies have been part of her most precious memories. It all began with her father, Daddio, the name of the peanut butter dark chocolate cookie. Her father used to make the best peanut butter cookies straight from Whole Earth Catalog Fall 1970 book that was about 3 feet long and 3 inches thick. The best part was getting to lick the paddles. Cookies are also Amber’s childhood memories with her grandmother, Gam, the name of the molasses cookie. Gam taught Amber to bake. Amber had the best job when they went to the grocery store. She could pick out the cookies that went in the cookie jar. She made sure each cookie tasted delicious as she colored master pieces while watching Western movies with grandma. After Amber’s father passed her mother tried to make the same peanut butter cookies her father made, but she has an unfortunate ability of consistently burning them. Love you mom! Amber grew to like the burnt cookie taste as she appreciated her mother for trying to bring back memories of her father.
As you scroll through the cookie flavors you will see that many have a short story/memory attached to the reason for their names.
You can also tell by those “chipmunk cheeks” that my nickname has always been Chipmunk so hence the company name Chippy’s Chips!
